Teach it - Project (Process)

This term (Term 3) we have mainly been focused on working on projects based around science. We had an opportunity to do one of three things; Teach it (Create a video teaching something about science), Science badge (Get given tasks around science and complete them) and Learn it (where you learn something about science). I chose "Teach it" because I thought it might be fun creating a video, I also decided to work with Evan. For our experiment we are doing an experiment called "Absorbing water with fire." To do this experiment we needed; A glass cup, a plate, a small candle that can fit under a cup, a lighter and some tap water.

Roller coaster energy

Today in immersion we were learning about all types of energy and forces. In the image shown above, we had to create a roller coaster than was both safe and fun. With the roller coaster it stored lots of potential energy going up to the top of the first hill, but it released too much kinetic energy going down the hill causing it to go too fast making it an unsafe and not fun ride. The Next time I tried to make it much safer and as you can see, it was more safe but not as fun. It was not as fun because it did not release  as much kinetic energy, making it a slow and dull ride. The last time I mixed the two together, making it fun and exciting but also very safe. At the start I wanted to make a big hill, but not too big because it would release too much kinetic energy making it go much too fast. Burning Oxygen

                                        Burning Oxygen On the 6th of June 2017, the same group of people that did " Elephant Toothpaste " also did an experiment on candles called "Burning Oxygen." The experiment we were seeing if candles would burn longer with more oxygen, or less. To do the experiment we were going to have; 4 candles, 4 cups of different sizes, 4 stopwatches and something to light the candles. What we were doing was lighting the candles, then getting the stopwatches ready, putting the cups  on the candles and immediately after starting the stopwatch. The cup sizes we had was; small, 2 medium ones, (one smaller and one bigger) and a large cup.                                  Conclusion The results were: •   Large cup: 11.40 s • Medium 2 cup: 8....

Immersion with Liv

Today this morning group 5 in immersion rotated teachers again and now this time we are working on what signage's we might like in the school so we can decorate it more. To decide what might look good in a signage group 5 traveled to the hobsonville point high school and looked at quotes, pictures and inspirational sayings. I brought my phone to take pictures and videos and my favorite one was a quote in the library that said "Reach for the sky" which I guess means reach for your dreams.
